Mobile Cardiac Monitors with RightSpike Monitors

RightSpike Monitors provides cardiac monitoring equipment to healthcare facilities worldwide. As a distributor of branded, whitelabeled, and generic equipment, RIghtSpike saw an opportunity to create their own niche in the market.

Interviews with health professionals, especially nurses, revealed two clear problems with existing cardiac monitor solutions: mobility constraints and improper electrode placement. New personnel often place electrodes in the wrong place on the body, leading to bad diagnoses and waste. Patients can also induce errors in monitor readings by jiggling bulky wires as they move. Sometimes the lack of unencumbered mobility even pushes patients to remove monitoring equipment.

Starling IoT worked with RightSpike Monitoring to develop prototype, disposable electrodes that communicate wirelessly with a monitor unit. The electrodes consist of the traditional gel layer, with a flexible circuit board printed on top. Pulses detected by the circuit are immediately converted to a wireless signal. Each electrode is uniquely coded; mistakes in electrode placement are easy to fix by reconfiguring the default placement on the monitor directly.

Patients are now free to move as they wish, and healthcare providers no longer have to deal with the expense of electrode misplacement and lead-wire sanitization. Future integration will also provide patient tracking and additional vital signs.
