Item Level Freight Tracking for Clydesdale Transportation Company
Clydesdale Transportation Company is a small third-party logistics (3PL) company. They provide flatbed, heavy haul, and transportation brokerage services in the Pacific Northwest.
Since its founding in 1993, Clydesdale has been tracking its equipment and drivers manually. Mobile phones have helped, but the main system of phone calls and sticky notes was becoming cumbersome. Betty, the receptionist and customer service representative, was having trouble answering questions about cargo - especially when the company was working as a broker. It was time to update the tracking process.
Starling IoT implemented a hybrid tracking system using off-the-shelf hardware. Extremely cheap electronic stickers were easy to put on every customer's items, and each sticker was linked to the specific freight and client. In its trucks, Clydesdale mounted reader antennas that would see everything loaded in each trailer and report back wirelessly from across the nation. Even when shipping with other transportation companies, Clydesdale was able to service the cargo using a Bluetooth-enabled tag and an app on every Android and Apple phone.
Clydesdale management can see all cargo, all the time, and monitor for issues. Betty can answer customer questions in real time by looking at Clydesdale's website. Clients can access their special portal to track their shipments without taking up valuable working hours. Customer satisfaction is high, and company time is spent on managing logistics instead of sticky notes.
