Recent legislative decisions have prompted the company to look beyond manufacturing to augment its growth plan. They identified the areas of smart components, repair diagnostics, and just-in-time servicing as the future in HVAC.
Repair technicians spend much of the time on a job simply looking for the problem. In some cases the culprit behind a broken unit is easy to find, but in others the fix might require replacement of multiple parts, or hours of troubleshooting. Even regular servicing doesn't prevent many repairs - it's done on a one-size-fits-all time basis, not dependent on the unit's true condition. Many customers are reluctant to enter into periodic servicing agreements, seeing it as an expense instead of an infrastructure investment.
BlueSound HVAC worked with Starling IoT on a three pronged approach to these problems. First, we designed and retrofitted sensors into the most critical diagnostic areas of older HVAC units. The sensors report to a central dashboard, viewable by the service department. BlueSound HVAC enjoys a new revenue stream: no-contract servicing enabled by machine analysis of sensor data. Service technicians report to the facility as needed, armed with dramatic visual diagnostics to show the need for their work. Finally, validation of the new sensor-equipped components have allowed BlueSound HVAC to offer a unique, highly profitable line of goods to manufacturing plants, even those outside the HVAC vertical.
